CAN TOUCH THIS [SOME OF US]
performing:group & Theater Strahl in cooperation with Offensive Tanz für junge Publikum presenting a mobile new edition of CAN TOUCH THIS
Three performers meet under the direction of performing:group for an improvisation. The result is a game based on common rules and the material from our piece CAN TOUCH THIS (2020). The special thing: the rehearsals for the new format take place exclusively via Zoom, so that some of the dancers meet each other for the first time at the performances!
The public space is the stage. The performers leave the loneliness in front of their screens at home and venture into public space to try and create a community between social distancing rules and the obligation to wear masks. Living together, how did that work again? Where some feel restricted, others remind us of our responsibility for one another.
How do individuals become a society?
Performing:group explores this question in the new edition of CAN TOUCH THIS – mobile, adaptable, in a mixture of flash mob and dance theater.
They also redesign the performance each time: beyond the fixed sound framework, the performers themselves control certain scenes using individual tracks. The result is an autonomous performance whose sequence, participants and location are adaptable and changeable.
An experiment that allows for great artistic freedom while posing concrete questions. The themes of the original production - touch and personal boundaries - are being re-examined with regard to distancing rules and the obligation to wear masks: Where are the lines of conflict between individuals who feel limited and a social contract that demands responsibility for one another?
Can Touch This [Some of Us] takes our production Can Touch This, which premiered in January at the Theater Strahl in Berlin, as its starting point.
