THE SUPERHERO PIECE
A dance piece for everyone aged 12 and over
THE SUPERHERO PIECE takes a humorous look at clichés and gender roles and questions how the image of the (super) hero influenced by the media influences our perception." Jury NRW Junges Theater
Selected for Westwind Festival 2019, Strong Pieces Festival 2020, Varieties 2020 and NRW Young Theater 2020/21.
A hero, as often portrayed in films, is male and muscular and saves powerless damsels in distress. The villain is usually unattractive, effeminate or speaks with an accent, while an evil woman shows off her wasp waist and uses her seductive powers to corrupt people. Who made these superheroes? And in what way do these innocent fictional characters influence our view? Is it necessary to be Caucasian, male, athletic, under 40 years old and look like a "Men's Health" cover boy to be an ethical role model? With two performers, performing:group explores the validity of this appearance and creates an honest and absurd dialogue about stereotypes without raising a moral finger. This very physical, non-verbal performance reduces the stage design to the absolute minimum to transform the stage into a large screen in which special effects, film sounds and lights create a dramaturgy of contrasts. The show constantly switches between everyday banalities and epic film scenes, between real and virtual realities, between extravagant talent shows and quiet, intimate encounters. People removing tiny hairs from unthinkable places and oversized aliens attacking the planet are constantly changing. Featuring a range of pop culture quotes ranging from Quentin Tarantino to Queen to Japanese anime, "The SUPERHERO piece" is an attempt to rethink the absurdity of the normalized.
"It's about sensitivity to pain, showing off and moments of weakness. Above all, that Performance extremely entertaining and entertaining." Jury Westwind 2019
